1:
Stands for the home win in 3-way bets. Often used as a short form on bet slips.
2:
Stands for the away win in a classic 3-way bet.
X:
Refers to a draw in a match for 3-way bets.
2-Way Bet:
Betting format with only two possible outcomes (e.g., win or loss). Typical in tennis or basketball.
3-Way Bet:
Standard bet in sports like football where you can bet on home win, draw, or away win.

A

Accumulator
English term for a combination bet. Several individual tips are combined into one betting slip, all of which must be correct to win.
Hedging
A betting strategy that aims to limit the risk of losses through counter-bets, specific bet types, or cash-outs.
Ante-post Bet
A long-term bet placed well before an event starts – e.g., on a tournament winner before the first matchday.
Asian Handicap
A type of handicap bet where virtual advantages or disadvantages create balanced odds. Draws are excluded, which improves risk protection.
Asian Over
A sub-category of Asian Total bets. It bets on more than a specific number of goals being scored. Often offered in quarter steps like Over 2.25, which can lead to partial refunds.
Asian Under
Counterpart to Asian Over: Here you bet that fewer than a certain number of goals will be scored – also often specified in quarter values.
Arbitrage Bet
A betting strategy where bets are placed on all possible outcomes of an event by utilizing different odds from multiple bookmakers – guaranteeing a profit regardless of the outcome.
Outsider
Participant to whom the bookmaker gives only a small chance. Longshot bets promise high odds, but also carry a higher risk of loss.

B

Back Bet
Bet on the occurrence of a specific event – the classic form of betting as is common with bookmakers. The opposite is a lay bet.
Banker Tip
A tip that is considered to have a particularly high chance of winning and is often regarded as "safe." Frequently part of combination or system bets.
Bet Builder
Feature offered by many bookmakers that allows you to combine multiple bets from a single match – e.g., result, goal scorer, and number of cards.
Betting Exchange
Betting exchange where users bet directly against each other. You can both accept (Back) and offer (Lay) bets without a classic bookmaker involved.
Betting Odds
English term for odds – they reflect the probability calculated by the bookmaker for an outcome to occur and determine the potential winnings.
Bonus Conditions
Conditions attached to the payout of a bonus or winnings made with it – such as a minimum odds requirement or a turnover multiplier.
Bookies
Sports betting provider that creates odds, accepts bets, and evaluates them. Bookmakers make their profit through margins that are factored into the odds.
Bwin
A well-known international bookmaker with roots in Austria. Active as a brand in German-speaking regions since the early 2000s.

C

Cash-Out
Function of many bookmakers that allows you to cash out an ongoing bet early – either to take profits or limit losses.
Cashout Value
The current amount a bookmaker offers for an ongoing bet as part of a cash-out. It depends on the course of the game and the remaining probability of the tip.
Combo Bet
An accumulator bet – multiple individual bets are combined onto one bet slip. The slip only wins if all tips are correct.
Corner Bet
Bet on corner kicks, e.g. on the number of corners in the game, which team gets more corners, or whether a certain number of corners is exceeded or not reached.
Correct Score
Bet on the exact result of a match, e.g., 2:1 or 0:0. This bet has particularly high odds, but also a correspondingly high risk.
Correct Score Bet
Alternative term for "Correct Score". Often used on German-language betting sites, but means the same thing.

D

Decimal Odds
Decimal odds – common way of displaying betting odds in Europe. Example: Odds of 2.50 mean you get 2.5 times your stake back.
Double Chance
Type of bet where two out of three possible match outcomes are covered simultaneously – e.g., 1X, X2, or 12. This option reduces risk, but also the odds.
Draw No Bet
A bet on a team where a draw results in a refund of the stake. Often used as a hedging strategy.
Treble
System bet consisting of three tips played in a single treble combination. Prerequisite for winning: All three tips must be correct.

E

deposit bonus
Bonus offer from a betting provider where a certain percentage of the first deposit is credited additionally – e.g., 100% up to €100.
Single Bet
A bet on a single event. The payout is simply the stake multiplied by the odds. The simplest and lowest-risk type of bet.
Stake
The amount a player places on a bet. The potential payout is calculated by multiplying the stake by the odds.
Score Bet
Bet on the exact final score of a game – see also Correct Score. Especially popular for football matches.
Opening Odds
The initial odds a bookmaker publishes for an event. They can change due to market shifts or new information before the match starts.

F

Favorite
Participant or team that the bookmaker considers to have the best chance of winning. The odds for favorites are usually lower.
Fibonacci System
Betting system where stakes are increased according to the Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8...). The goal is to get back into profit after a series of losses through a win.
Flat Betting
Conservative betting strategy where each stake is the same amount – regardless of previous wins or losses. Helps to keep the bankroll constant.
Freebet
Free bet, often offered as part of promotions or as a bonus. Usually, only the net profit is paid out in case of a win, without the stake.
Free Thresholds
Limits or conditions from which a bonus or a bet is unlocked or becomes active – e.g., a certain turnover amount or odds limit.

G

Outright Winner Bet
Long-term bet where you wager on the winner of a tournament or a season – e.g. Champions League winner or Formula 1 World Champion.
Winnings
The amount paid out if a bet wins. Calculation: stake × odds. For bonus bets, the payout may vary.
Winning Odds
Odds value that indicates the potential gross payout – meaning including the stake. The lower the odds, the more likely the event.
State Treaty on Gambling
Legal basis for legal online gambling in Germany. Since July 2021, it regulates, among other things, the licensing of sports betting providers.
Base Odds
The bookmaker's originally calculated odds before any market influence. The basis for adjustments driven by supply and demand.

H

Half-time/Full-time Bet
Combination bet where both the half-time result and the final result must be correctly predicted – e.g., 1/X or X/2. There are nine possible combinations.
Handicap Bet
Type of bet where a team starts with a fictional advantage or disadvantage. Popular for making one-sided games more attractive with balanced odds.
Head-to-Head
Comparison of two participants independently of the overall field – e.g., in motorsports or ski racing: whoever places better wins.
Home Advantage
Observation that teams are often more successful at home. Bookmakers factor this into odds calculation.
Highest Odds
Upper limit for odds that applies to certain bonus promotions or accumulator bets. Higher odds may no longer be factored in.

I

In-Play Bet
Bet placed while the game is ongoing. The odds change dynamically depending on how the game unfolds.
Inside Tip
Tip based on internal or non-public information, such as injuries, lineups, or motivation. Such tips carry risks, including legal ones.
Insider Bets
Bets placed using insider information. In many countries, such bets are forbidden or can lead to a ban.
iOS App
A betting provider's mobile app for Apple devices. These apps often offer the same features as the web version.

J

Jackpot
Large winning amount, usually paid out in special bets or betting pools. Jackpots can grow over a longer period until they are won.
Juice
US term for the bookmaker's margin. Also known as "Vig" or "Vigorish". It is the provider's built-in profit share in the odds.

K

Combination Bet
Betting type where multiple single tips are combined on one betting slip. The total winnings are calculated by multiplying all odds – but only if all predictions are 100% correct.
Account verification
Process for identity verification with betting providers, where e.g. ID documents or proof of address must be uploaded. Prerequisite for payouts.
Kelly Criterion
Mathematical approach to calculating the optimal stake for value bets. The goal is to maximize long-term bankroll growth while limiting losses.
Combo Bonus
An extra payout awarded on successful accumulator bets with multiple selections. The more selections, the higher the bonus usually is.

Long-Term Bet
Bet on a result that is only determined after weeks or months – e.g., who will become German champion or top scorer. These bets tie up capital long-term.
Lay Bet
Betting type where you bet against a specific event happening. Only possible at betting exchanges. You take on the role of the bookmaker.
Live Bet
Bet placed during a live game. The odds are dynamically adjusted to the game's progress. Particularly popular for football and tennis.
Limit
Limit for the stake or the winnings with a bookmaker. Can be set as a flat rate or individually – for example, for successful players.
License
Official authorization a bookmaker needs to legally offer sports betting. Regulated in Germany by the Interstate Treaty on Gambling.

M

Martingale System
A progressive betting system where the stake is doubled after each lost bet to cover all previous losses with the first win. Very risky with long losing streaks.
Maximum Payout
Upper limit for potential winnings on a bet, as set by the bookmaker. Can vary per bet, day, or sport.
Minimum Stake
The minimum amount that must be wagered on a bet with a bookmaker. Often lies between €0.10 and €1.
Money Management
Systematic management of the betting budget with the goal of long-term success. Includes stake management and risk control, among other things.
Mobile Bet
Bets placed via smartphone or tablet. Usually possible via app or mobile-optimized website.

N

Injury Time Bet
Bet on events that specifically happen in stoppage time – e.g., a goal or a card. Only offered by a few bookmakers.
New customer bonus
Bonus offer for new players, usually in the form of a deposit bonus or a risk-free bet. Linked to bonus conditions such as turnover or minimum odds.
Zero Odds
Odds of exactly 1.00, where no profit is made. Can appear in special cases, for example, if an event was canceled and the bet is voided.

O

Oddset
Brand for state-licensed sports betting offers in Germany, operated by the state lottery companies. Known for fixed odds and conservative betting options.
Over/Under
Bet type where you bet on whether a certain number of goals or points will be exceeded or not reached – e.g., „Over 2.5 goals“ means at least three goals in the match.
Over 1.5/2.5/3.5
Typical over bets, where a minimum number of goals must be reached in the game. The number behind the term indicates the relevant goal limit.
Outright Bet
A long-term bet on the overall winner of a tournament or league. Synonymous with outright bet or ante-post bet.

P

Payout Ratio
The bookmaker's payout percentage, indicating how much of the stakes is returned to players in the long run. Values over 90% are considered player-friendly.
Place Bet
Betting type where a participant doesn't necessarily have to win, but it's enough if they finish in the top X – e.g., Top 3 in a horse race.
Progressive Bet
Strategy in which the stake amount is changed according to a specific pattern – usually, you increase after losses to compensate for them (progression).
Push
Situation where a bet is valued at odds of 1.00 and the stake is fully refunded – for example, in case of a draw with Draw No Bet or if the exact number of goals is met with Over/Under.

Q

Odds
Numerical expression for the probability of an event. The higher the odds, the less likely the tip – but the greater the potential winnings.
Odds Boost
Temporarily increased odds for selected bets, usually as part of promotions. It offers higher winnings than usual but is often limited or comes with conditions.
odds comparison
Comparing betting odds from different providers to find the best value for a specific bet. Important for long-term profitability.

R

Result Bet
Betting on the exact final score of a match – for example, 2:1 or 0:0. Very popular with football fans due to high odds, but difficult to predict.
Rollover
Turnover requirement for bonus offers. Before a payout is possible, the bonus amount must be wagered (e.g., 5 times) at a specific minimum odd.
Money Back Bet
Bet where your stake is fully refunded under certain conditions – e.g. in the event of a draw. Often part of promotions.
Risk Odds
Odds on an event with a very low probability of occurring, usually with particularly high profit potential. Popular for underdog bets.

S

Stake
Term for the bet amount. The money a player risks on a bet. Can be used constantly or variably depending on strategy.
surebet
Betting option where you guarantee a profit by betting on all possible outcomes of an event with different bookmakers – thanks to different odds. Only usable with very quick reactions.
System Bet
Combination of multiple tips in a betting system where not all tips need to be correct to still achieve a win. Examples: 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4.
Match Analysis
Detailed assessment of a sporting event to prepare for a bet – including form, statistics, lineups, motivation, etc.
Swedish Odds
Outdated term for extremely low odds – e.g., 1.01 or 1.05. These indicate an almost certain event but offer little profit.

T

Tip
A concrete prediction of a result – e.g., "Team A wins". Tips are often based on statistics, gut feeling, or expert opinion.
Bet Slip
Document or digital record showing all the bets a player has placed. Includes stake, odds, and potential winnings.
Toto
Sports competition where the player bets on a fixed number of matches (e.g., 13 games). The goal is to predict as many results as possible correctly. Known from state providers like Lotto.
Hit Rate
The percentage of successful bets out of all bets placed. Used to evaluate betting quality.
Trixie
System bet with three selections, consisting of a total of four bets: three doubles and one treble. At least two correct predictions guarantee a payout.

U

Under
Bet on an event with fewer than a certain number of goals or points. For example, "Under 2.5" means that a maximum of two goals may be scored.
Underdog
Term for an underdog that bookmakers give only a small chance of winning. The odds are correspondingly high.
Rollover Requirement
Condition that must be met in bonus promotions before a payout is possible. Typical: A bonus must be wagered, e.g., 5x at minimum odds of 1.80.
Draw
An outcome where both teams score the same number of goals or points. Labeled as "X" in 3-way bets.

V

Value Bet
Bet where the offered odds are higher than the actual probability of the event. Basis for many professional betting strategies.
Loss Progression
A strategy where stakes are increased after each lost bet – with the goal of compensating for losses with the next win. Examples include the Martingale or Fibonacci system.
Verification Process
Mandatory step with legal bookmakers where a player must prove their identity and residential address. Without this step, payouts are usually not possible.

W

Betting Exchange
Platform where players place bets among themselves, without a traditional bookmaker. Participants can bet both for and against an event (Back and Lay).
Betting Odds
Central value of every bet – indicates how high the profit will be in case of success. It is determined by the bookmaker based on probability and margin.
Betting tax
Tax of 5% on sports bets, legally required in Germany. Deducted either from the stake or the gross winnings, depending on the provider.
Betting Limit
Maximum allowed stake or profit with a bookmaker. Used for risk limitation – especially for conspicuous bettors or system players.
Bet Slip
Receipt (physical or digital) summarizing all picks, stakes, and odds of a bet. The basis for payout of winnings.

X

X
Abbreviation for a draw in a classic 3-way bet. Used on betting slips as a neutral outcome between a home win (1) and an away win (2).

Y

Yankee
A system bet with four selections, combined into a total of eleven bets: six doubles, four trebles, and one four-fold. A win is possible even with two correct tips.

Z

Time Bets
A type of bet where you wager on events occurring within a specific time window of the game – e.g., a goal between the 1st and 15th minute.
Two-way Bet
Betting type with only two possible outcomes – e.g. win or loss. Typical for sports without draws like tennis or basketball.
Half-time Result Bet
Bet on the specific score at a certain point in time, such as at half-time or after the first quarter of an hour.
